Just Vapor
Dear Mom -

I'm so glad you decided to use an electronic cigarette.

I'm sending you a M401, which is a mini cigarette. Your package will be in the mail soon, with some extras from me, which will make it easier for you to make the transition from analog or real cigarettes to an electronic cigarette.

The first thing you have to remember is that an e-cig is not a real cigarette. Because it's electronic, it's heavier. Many people who vape e-cigs (as opposed to smoke a real cig) start off with a mini or super mini and go onto larger modified models with longer battery life.

The electronic cigarette you're getting has three parts:

a flavor cartridge (cart) which is both the inhaler piece and liquid cartridge
an atomizer (atty)
and a battery

When you inhale on the flavor cartridge, the suction triggers the battery, which heats the atomizer. The atomizer takes the liquid in the flavor cartridge and heats it up, until it becomes a vapor. You inhale the vapor, which has flavoring, (in your case menthol) and nicotine. When you exhale, again you're exhaling vapor. Although some people say you're exhaling water vapor, that is a myth. What you're exhaling is anything that didn't get absorbed in your lungs. It is primarily water, so it's very easy to see why most people say that.

I want to touch on the FDA reports, that kept you from choosing the e-cigarette several months ago. Let's just talk about their findings for a minute. The harmful chemicals they found in electronic cigarettes are also found in nicotine patches and gum, in about the same strengths. You would have to smoke 600 cartridges a day for the chemicals to have a negative impact on your health. I use about 2 and half cartridges a day.

And there is that infamous line, "it has propylene glycol, which is also in anti-freeze." Propylene glycol replaced another, more toxic chemical in an effort to make anti-freeze non-toxic to pets and children. It's in mouthwash, deodorant and flavored sex lubes.

Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin (some people are allergic to propylene glycol and switch to flavor cartridges and refill liquids that are PG free) have been tested, going back to the 1950's. These are the same liquids that create artificial smoke that fire fighters train in and fog for concerts.

I will call you when everything arrives and ship it out to you. I believe that electronic cigarettes present a least harm scenario versus smoking a regular cigarette. And I want both of us to live a long, long time.

Love,

Denise
