Getting Started with an Electronic Cigarette

Getting Started with an Electronic Cigarette

When you open your electronic cigarette package, you’ll find one M401 automatic battery, one M401 manual battery, one M402 automatic battery and two M series atomizers. The M40X series of batteries are interchangeable with all other M series products. The difference between the M401, M402 and M403 batteries is the length of the battery. This is not a standard electronic cigarette package. It’s a custom personal vaporizer package that I put together for you.

When you lift the top of the package off, you’ll see an instruction manual and two boxes. One box has your USB charger, which can be connected to your computer. Or, you can connect it to the wall charger that comes in the same box.

The second box has five Marlboro high strength cartridges, which are standard for new e-cig packages.

I also got you an e-cig case, 4 boxes of menthol cartridges, (5 cartridges in each box,) 15 blank cartridges with no liquid, a 50ml bottle of 16mg nicotine strength menthol liquid for filling and refilling your carts and some menthol crystals, in case you decide that the flavoring is not strong enough. And I sent you an additional charger, so you can charge 2 batteries at the same time. We chain smoke and chances are, you will chain vape, so having batteries ready to go is a must.
The Short Instructions

Your atomizer comes with an empty cover on it. Take the cover off and put a cartridge from one of the boxes on it. Put it to the side and let it sit for at least 10 minutes before use. Always do this with new atomizers.

The manual battery is fully charged, so that you can start vaping immediately, (you smoke cigarettes, you vape electronic cigarettes.) The manual battery is the one with the button on it. The battery will only work when you press down on the button. The other two batteries will work whenever you inhale through the mouthpiece/cartridge. This is the difference between manual and automatic electronic cigarette batteries.

Screw the atomizer into the battery. Put a menthol cart on the atomizer. Put the cart end of the cigarette into your mouth. Press the button and inhale. Let go of the button.

You’ll see the other end of the e-cig light up with a blue light. This indicates the battery is active.

You’ve done this right if you exhale vapor. If no vapor or very little vapor comes out press the button for a longer period of time as you inhale.

You need to start charging your automatic batteries. They need to be charged for a minimum of 4-5 hours each. (I’ve heard some people say they need to be charged for 12 hours the first time, but I didn’t and you probably won’t either.)
The Taste

Atomizers are shipped with humectant to keep them from drying out. It is universally regarded as foul tasting and nasty. On average, it will take 2 days to get the taste out of your atomizer and this is often referred to as the atomizer break-in period.

Many people report that their taste buds come back after vaping. So don’t be surprised if you start tasting (and smelling,) things again.

Electronic cigarette liquid comes in a variety of flavors. You know I’ve smoked menthol for 30 years. Camel and Chocolate are my favorite non-menthol flavors and I also like Havana Cigar flavor.

Expect to start cleaning your teeth more often. I actually could taste it when I didn’t brush first thing in the morning.
How to Inhale

With an e-cig you use light, long drags. When people see videos of electronic cigarette users, they often comment that the person obviously doesn’t know how to smoke. Well, they are not smoking, they are vaping. Vaping is different and the way you inhale is different. It took all of 5 minutes before it became a natural way to inhale.

Differences between Analog and Electric

Besides the obvious difference of sucking in 4,000 chemicals and 40 carcinogens with cigarettes and between 4-20 ingredients with electronic cigarettes, there are other differences.

E-cigs are heavier with the most weight being at the battery end. Your hold will have to change to accommodate the weight. Instead of holding it between two fingers, you might find you use more fingers on top and have your thumb on the bottom for a better balance.

Most of the time, we have a cigarette in our mouths. If you do this with an electronic cigarette, expect to drool. There is no filter to absorb it.

There is usually no odor with an electronic cigarette. One person reported that their daughter smelled marshmallows.

You don’t have to worry about burning your clothes.

You can smoke in bed. BUT, just like smoking a real cigarette, you should never fall asleep with an electric cigarette.
Smoking and Vaping

I used up what was left of my cigarettes and smoked about 4 a day, two in the morning and two at night, until I was out. Since we chain smoke, you may need a higher strength of nicotine to offset what you’re used to taking in.

Since I was using electronic cigarettes to replace smoking and not to quit smoking, a few cigarettes a day did not make me worry.

Electronic Cigarette

Dear Mom -

I'm so glad you decided to use an electronic cigarette.

I'm sending you a M401, which is a mini cigarette. Your package will be in the mail soon, with some extras from me, which will make it easier for you to make the transition from analog or real cigarettes to an electronic cigarette.

The first thing you have to remember is that an e-cig is not a real cigarette. Because it's electronic, it's heavier. Many people who vape e-cigs (as opposed to smoke a real cig) start off with a mini or super mini and go onto larger modified models with longer battery life.

The electronic cigarette you're getting has three parts:

a flavor cartridge (cart) which is both the inhaler piece and liquid cartridge
an atomizer (atty)
and a battery

When you inhale on the flavor cartridge, the suction triggers the battery, which heats the atomizer. The atomizer takes the liquid in the flavor cartridge and heats it up, until it becomes a vapor. You inhale the vapor, which has flavoring, (in your case menthol) and nicotine. When you exhale, again you're exhaling vapor. Although some people say you're exhaling water vapor, that is a myth. What you're exhaling is anything that didn't get absorbed in your lungs. It is primarily water, so it's very easy to see why most people say that.

I want to touch on the FDA reports, that kept you from choosing the e-cigarette several months ago. Let's just talk about their findings for a minute. The harmful chemicals they found in electronic cigarettes are also found in nicotine patches and gum, in about the same strengths. You would have to smoke 600 cartridges a day for the chemicals to have a negative impact on your health. I use about 2 and half cartridges a day.

And there is that infamous line, "it has propylene glycol, which is also in anti-freeze." Propylene glycol replaced another, more toxic chemical in an effort to make anti-freeze non-toxic to pets and children. It's in mouthwash, deodorant and flavored sex lubes.

Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin (some people are allergic to propylene glycol and switch to flavor cartridges and refill liquids that are PG free) have been tested, going back to the 1950's. These are the same liquids that create artificial smoke that fire fighters train in and fog for concerts.

I will call you when everything arrives and ship it out to you. I believe that electronic cigarettes present a least harm scenario versus smoking a regular cigarette. And I want both of us to live a long, long time.

Love,

Denise

Atomizer Failure

Atomizer Failure

The atomizer or atty is the part of the electronic cigarette that heats up the flavor/nicotine liquid, turning it into an inhalable vapor.

The atomizer or atty is also the weakest part of the electronic cigarette, because both the cart and the battery affect its performance and life cycle.

A dirty cart, or an e-juice with a thicker viscosity can “gunk” up the heating coil of the atomizer, rendering it.useless. A battery, which overheats an atomizer can cause the heating coil to snap and fail.

A week of regular use can cause significant build up around the heating coil, diminishing the performance of your atomizer. And some people recommend replacing your atomizer weekly.

However, enough people get several months worth of effective use out of their atomizers, that the question of the real life cycle of an atomizer is called into question.

Heavy users of electronic cigarettes say atomizers should last for 5,000 puffs.

So, if you are blowing through atomizers at a faster rate than every 2-3 weeks to a month, you need to determine what’s causing your atomizer to blow up prematurely.

If your battery is overheating, chances are it will take out your atomizer. If the battery cylinder is hot every time you use it, you should replace it.

If after replacing your battery, you still have atomizers that are failing at a high rate, go back factory-manufactured juice and stop using DIY e-liquid.
